Leeds United forward Willy Gnonto is likely to leave the club in the summer months as the side prepares for relegation, and two more Serie A clubs have registered their interest.

Transfers are not going to be sanctioned just yet while Leeds find themselves still in with a slim chance of staying in the Premier League – albeit incredibly slim.

However, the side’s more than precarious position means other clubs will be sniffing around for signings of Leeds’ most important players.

Will Gnonto leave Leeds?

Perhaps the most inevitable of exits from Elland Road in the summer is that of Italian international Willy Gnonto, who has shone in his debut top-flight season, since joining from FC Zurich last summer for £3.8million.

The teenager has impressed with two goals and four assists this season, and it has led to interest reported previously in the season from three of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ in Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal.

What’s the latest?

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport are now reporting that Lazio and Europa Conference League finalists Fiorentina are “on pole” to sign the forward.

Interest from Gnonto’s homeland is inevitable after he chose to leave Inter’s youth ranks to pursue the move to Zurich earlier in his career.

There is also added incentive for Gnonto to move back to Italy this summer, as he would be eligible to reap the benefits of the Growth Decree, a system that would allow him to pay a lower tax rate on his earnings.

Gnonto is surely going to leave in the summer, because he is far too good to be playing in the Championship.

Some might hold out hopes that he might stay at the club in order to help us rebuild, but an Italian regular is not going to play second tier football.

A move back to Italy is likely, but the amount of money we’ll be demanding does make it a tougher deal for Serie A clubs, competing with the riches of the Premier League.
