Rennes will receive a significant fee from Leeds United‘s prospective sale of Raphinha to Barcelona this summer.

That’s according to the French club’s sporting director Florian Maurice, who has revealed details of the clauses included in the deal that took Raphinha to Leeds back in 2020.

Following Leeds’ return to the Premier League in the summer of 2020, the club completed the signing of Raphinha from Rennes, for a reported fee of £17million.

Having emerged as a key player for Leeds over the past two seasons, the winger now looks set to move on again this summer, with Barcelona having reportedly agreed a fee for the 25-year-old.

It has been suggested that the Spanish giants will ultimately spend somewhere in the region of €75million on the signing of the winger.

Now it seems that as well as benefitting Leeds financially, this deal could also provide a useful windfall for one of Raphinha’s other former clubs.

As reported by French journalist Clement Gavard, Rennes’ sporting director Florian Maurice has confirmed that his side are entitled to 20% of any profit that Leeds make on Raphinha.

Given the figure that appear to be involved in both deals, that should mean that the Ligue 1 side receive somewhere in the region of €10million once the move has been completed.

This does look as though it ought to be a good deal for all concerned.

For Rennes, this will provide them with a welcome extra financial boost, that ensures they have made a great deal from a player who was only actually on their books for one full season.

Leeds meanwhile, will still receive a hugely sizeable fee despite this clause, to they will still be able to reinvest plenty into their squad.

With that in mind, you feel everyone should be coming away here relatively satisfied, once this saga is finally over.
