With the January window around the corner, incomings are going to be the most important part of the Leeds agenda, knowing they could be decisive in the promotion race.
It’s impossible to rule out exits, though, given Leeds’ squad depth has made for tough fringe player situations, as well as those players that see themselves playing top-flight football sooner rather than later.
Junior Firpo back to Real Betis?
Journalist Santi Aouna has claimed this week that Leeds left-back Junior Firpo is going to be subject to a transfer offer from Real Betis in the January window.
Firpo of course played for Betis previously, where he played arguably his best football before earning a big move to Barcelona, which didn’t work out and led to his £13million transfer in 2021 to Elland Road.
Marc Roca is currently back to his best with Betis in the Europa League, playing week in, week out off the back of a poor season in the Premier League at Leeds.
What sort of deal is it for Firpo?
According to the report, Betis are preparing a loan offer with an option-to-buy included, having taken Roca on temporary terms too:
What is also shared is that Firpo is claimed to want to leave the club in the new year when the opportunity arises, having not been able to in the summer as he nursed a long-term knee issue stemming from the summer.
How many signings will Leeds make in January?
3 or more
It wouldn’t be the end of the world if Firpo is pushing for an exit and is actually granted one by the club, but it can only happen on one condition.
If Firpo does leave, we need to have someone lined up that is capable of competing with Sam Byram on the left, staying fit throughout the season too.
We perhaps needed a new signing in that area anyway, but having Firpo going does kick us into gear there.
