Leeds United full-back Barry Douglas has finished his season away at Blackburn Rovers and looks set to depart the club after his loan came to an end this weekend.

The Whites kept the Championship-winning squad intact after arriving in the Premier League this season and the only first-team departure was Barry Douglas’ loan move.

The significance of the farewells at the time more than suggested that Leeds were parting ways with him long-term, despite the initial move being a loan to Blackburn.

Douglas spent the entire season at Ewood Park as Tony Mowbray’s side slumped to an eventual 15th-place finish despite boasting a goals tally only beaten by four other clubs.

The Scottish defender enjoyed a much more consistent run of games than he did at Leeds in his two seasons at Elland Road, and managed 30 league appearances, notching two assists.

Now, with the season over, he leaves Blackburn at the end of his loan spell but at a crossroads with his contract at Leeds due to expire this summer.

He took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the end of the season and his departure from Ewood Park, and amongat the comments was former Leeds loanee Eddie Nketiah, and former favourite Bradley Johnson:

Douglas:

Another season completed ✅ thoroughly enjoyed my time at @rovers lots of highs and lows but a memorable experience none the less with a great bunch of lads, good luck to everyone associated with the club and all the best for the future 🌹💙

Johnson:

All the best champ champ

Nketiah:

What a player

It doesn’t look like Douglas is going to stay at Blackburn beyond this season but hopefully he’s shown enough to sign for another club in that league.

There will surely be a handful of clubs eager to take him on a free, based on what he’s done in the league.

He might not be right at it at his age, but the quality he has on the ball is unquestioned and could be a valuable asset for a number of clubs.

Fingers crossed that he does managed to land on his feet after a full season back playing regularly.
