Leeds United’s pursuit of Lewis O’Brien looks to be hotting up as Huddersfield Town’s chief executive confirms the club have received two bids, while the payer’s stance has also been revealed.

Leeds haven’t got too long left in the transfer window to add any late additions to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad, but there are clear reasons to be positive regarding the window.

Two fresh faces have joined this summer in Junior Firpo and Kristoffer Klaesson, to address the main lingering concerns in the squad, and they were done with plenty of time to spare.

Lewis O’Brien remains the club’s main transfer target left in the window and the chase appears to be hotting up to sign him from Huddersfield Town.

It was reported earlier in August that Leeds had seen an initial bid rejected by the Terriers, as he sat out the first weekend of the Championship campaign due to illness.

Now, the transfer pursuit is set to gather more pace after Huddersfield chief executive Mark Devlin confirmed that the club have rejected two bids for the midfielder, amid reports that Crystal Palace have also joined the race:

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Lewis O’Brien’s future, in particular, and I can confirm we have received and rejected two transfer offers for him. We respect every player’s desire to test themselves at the highest possible level, but equally any transfer must be right for Huddersfield Town, both in terms of value and timing.

On top of this, Football Insider are now claiming that O’Brien wants to leave the John Smith’s Stadium and has made it clear to the board of his wishes.

A statement like this would suggest that Huddersfield are aware that O’Brien will want the move and it’s something that is largely out of their control.

While Palace are seemingly in the hunt, I’d still be confident that we can sign him quickly after these two updates have come to light.

His energy and ability to progress the ball would be a great asset to us and if he’s a seven-figure signing as reported, it’s one we certainly don’t have to break the bank for.

I can see this one building a lot of momentum in the coming days as it becomes more clear what the situation is.
