Leeds United have confirmed the signing of promising Wigan Athletic youngster Sean McGurk.

Leeds’ under-23s recruitment has been spot on in the past few seasons, transforming the academy side under Andrea Radrizzani.

It’s become a huge focus following promotion and has continued as the Whites prepare for a second season in the top fight.

A long-standing transfer link for the club has been to Wigan’s Sean McGurk, who has impressed for two seasons now.

Emerging alongside Joe Gelhardt, it’s clear Leeds were keen to wrap up a deal for his former teammate from the Latics.

The club have now confirmed the signing of McGurk from Wigan on a three-year deal:

The attacking midfielder hit 13 goals last season in Wigan’s under-18s side as they clinched the Professional Development National League title.

This is a great signing for the club.

McGurk has been a player on the radar for some time now and has continued to develop in the youth ranks at Wigan, even when Gelhardt left for us last summer.

He’s a great addition in midfield to our side in an area where we’re not exactly blessed with strong depth either.

I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on with our youth setup, and potentially a step into under-23s football.
