Mateusz Klich’s starting position at Leeds United is under threat at the minute and he’s been dealt another blow.

The Pole has been a guaranteed starter ever since Marcelo Bielsa joined Leeds United but his influence has dipped significantly this season.

While it’s to be expected that he’s not marauding forward every time he gets the ball in the top flight, his attacking output has been below where it could be.

Three goals and five assists is a fairly strong return, but could have been a lot more with the positions he’s arriving into.

Klich has lost his iron grip on a starting berth in 2021, a position that seemed untouchable at one point.

His energy levels seem to be lacking of late, to the point where he revealed in an interview with Sportowe Fakty that ‘something hurts’ due to his ongoing battles for 100% fitness.

Now, shorty after being included in the Poland national team for the upcoming international break, the Polish FA have confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Klich now has to endure a 14-day isolation period, ruling him out of Leeds’ home clash with Sheffield United in 10 days.

It’s a frustrating blow for Klich who will have been hoping to regain some form whilst away with his country.

He’s not been up to speed for a few months now and it’s clear to see something has been troubling him.

Before this positive case, he admitted his fitness wasn’t up to standard and we all know what he’s capable of when he’s at full tilt.

Hopefully he can regain fitness quickly and return the squad for the back end of the season, finishing strongly.
