Leeds United face Burnley on the 2nd of January, with both sides hoping to see key players remain available for the game.

The last couple of months have presented serious issues for Premier League squads as positive cases continue to spread across the division.

That, and injuries, have plagued Leeds this season, while their first opponents of 2022, Burnley, haven’t played a league game since the 12th of December.

The last thing these clubs need is extra headaches causing players to miss out crucial fixtures.

The upcoming Africa Cup of Nations will see stars from across the league jet off to feature in the tournament in the new year, but Leeds have nothing to worry about with no internationals to feature in that contest.

The Clarets will be without summer signing Maxwel Cornet for this given period as he represents Ivory Coast.

However, it has been revealed that AFCON and FIFA have decided that players won’t have to join their national sides until January 3.

What this means is Cornet will not have to link up with his side until the day after their trip to Elland Road, with the governing bodies making this decision on a gesture of goodwill to the clubs struggling with numbers at the moment.

Cornet is definitely the player to be very wary of as Burnley come to Elland Road.

He’s been their shining light so far this season as they look to stave off relegation, and if any player can win them a game on their own, it’s him.

Thankfully, we don’t have any players involved in this and thus won’t be weakened for this period.

Let’s just hope some of our multiple problems have resolved themselves in the coming days, because I dread to think what our squad looks like right now.
