Hull City have become the first club in the Championship to oppose the restart of the league, with training set to resume next week, putting Leeds United’s push for promotion in doubt.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men have been formidable this season as they sit top of the table above West Brom. A win over Huddersfield Town in the early stages of March saw them leapfrog the Baggies thanks to a stunning volley from Luke Ayling and a tap-in from Patrick Bamford.

More important than moving back to the summit was the stretching of their lead to third place to seven points over Fulham, strengthening their position in the automatic promotion places with just nine games left to play.

The current global pandemic has seen all football come to a halt and put the rest of the season at serious doubt of even being completed, with League Two already being curtailed. The same EFL statement that confirmed the ending of the League Two season also reiterated that the Championship still has every chance of resuming and the clubs are willing to push for a restart.

Training is set to resume on Monday 25th May, with scheduled testing for all players at the end of this week. However, the plans have hit a speedbump with relegation-threatened Hull City opposing to the plans to restart the season, insisting the season must be voided amid ‘serious concerns’.

Following a 4-0 humbling at home to the Whites, Hull took another hefty defeat to fellow strugglers Stoke City, as they were thumped 5-1 to plunder them further into the relegation scrap.

Their form only looked like going one way if the season resumed and voiding the season would be providing them some timely respite from the ever-growing likelihood of dropping to League One.

The Elland Road faithful were keen to share their thoughts on their Yorkshire rivals going against the grain with regards to the restart…
