Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has delivered an update on the availability of key players ahead of Leeds United’s trio to Bramall Lane.
It’s been nearly two years since Leeds last made the trip to Bramall Lane when Pablo Hernandez capitalised on a late Dean Henderson howler to edge a nervy clash 1-0.
Since then, fortunes for the two sides have been hugely contrasting, with Leeds forced into spending another year in the Championship while the Blades went up in second place.
Wilder’s men denied all odds to push for Europe last season but have struggled so far, losing both games this season so far while Leeds have grabbed all the headlines with two 7-goal thrillers.
Sheffield United come into this clash knowing they need to get their season up and running, following their unfortunate defeat to Aston Villa in their second Premier League outing.
During the match at Villa Park, centre-back John Egan was controversially sent off for being deemed to have hauled back Ollie Watkins whilst he broke through.
The Blades lost 1-0 after missing a penalty and know the Leeds clash is an important one.
Previewing the match, Chris Wilder spoke to the media and provided an update on the availability in his squad to the club’s official site:
Lys Mousset continues to miss out having sustained a toe injury before the season, while Egan’s suspension stands.
It’s a boost for Leeds to see that arguably the Blades’ best centre back is out suspended along with a key attacker, but it by no means decides the game.
Sheffield United have proven on a handful of occasions against the top sides that they won’t lie down, and off the back of two losses, it only serves as motivation.
Leeds know all about the threats that Wilder’s men possess and this could be another thrilling contest, even if two key players for the hosts are missing.
The depth they’ve built over at Bramall Lane is enough that they’ll be able to weather this mini-storm, as Ethan Ampadu impressed when he came off the bench at Villa Park.
