Leeds United have again been linked with a move to sign Southampton striker Che Adams, with Jesse Marsch plotting an attacking swoop.

It isn’t a secret that Leeds are in the market for a new striker this summer, with Patrick Bamford’s injury nightmares last season highlighting the lack of depth in that department.

A host of names have emerged in regards to a potential move to Leeds, and one of those is a familiar face in the rumour mill – Southampton’s Che Adams.

Leeds need a striker to hit the ground running in the Premier League, and the Scotland international could seemingly fit the bill.

As this speculation emerges once more, we take a look at everything we know so far about this transfer…

What has been reported?

Leeds tried to sign the former Birmingham City forward back in January 2020, but were rebuffed three times by the Saints as they eventually landed on the nightmare signing of Jean-Kévin Augustin.

However, The Sun have reported that Leeds are still interested in the 26-year-old, and are considering a £10million offer for his services.

Meanwhile, the South Coast outfit are said to be demanding closer to £15million to let him leave.

What’s the latest?

While these reports did appear to bring optimism to fans that a deal could be struck, The Athletic’s Phil Hay has just down claims that the club are still looking to sign Adams right now, where he wrote this:

“Links to Che Adams have resurfaced too. Adams is someone Leeds very nearly landed in January 2020. The club saw him then as Premier League standard and cannot pretend that they do not like him, but the indications are that Adams would only come onto the radar late in the window if other options fell away first.”

How long does he have left on his deal?

Adams signed for the Saints in 2019 on a five-year deal, meaning that he has two years left until his contract expires in 2024.

How likely is a deal then?

In a word: unlikely.

Adams is a player, as Hay outlines, that Leeds like the look of, and one that would certainly bolster the options that Marsch has at his disposal.

That said, there are more pressing targets on the agenda right now, with Hay also revealing that the priority still sits with Arnaud Kalimuendo and Martin Terrier.

Should those two targets not be attainable, then a move for Adams might be on the cards later this month.
