Bristol City are interested in signing former Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas.

That’s according to a report from Sky Sports Transfer Centre (11/06, 14:24), who say that a number of clubs are interested in the 31-year-old.

Douglas is currently a free agent, having been released by Leeds following the expiry of his contract at the end of last season.

However, it seems as though the left-back, who spent last season on loan in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers, will not be short of options.

According to this latest update, Bristol City are interested in a deal for the Scot, as they look to recover from a disappointing 19th place finish in the Championship last season.

As well as the Robins, Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir and a number of MLS clubs are said to be. However, it has been suggested that Douglas is reluctant to move abroad for next season.

It has previously been reported that Douglas is open to a return to Blackburn this summer, and that Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are interested in the left-back.

This is an interesting to consider for Bristol City.

In Jay Dasilva and Cameron Pring, the Robins already have two senior left-backs, while Douglas was somewhat inconsistent during his time with Blackburn, meaning you wonder just how much they need him.

Even so, it is worth remembering that Douglas’ experience as a promotion winner at that level could certainly be useful for Bristol City, so this would not be an altogether risky deal.

Indeed, at 31, Douglas does still have a few more years left in him, so it would be good to see him get another decent opportunity that his efforts throughout his career mean he deserves.
