Leeds United have returned to group training this week and one player who will be grateful to get back on track will be Illan Meslier, who made his first two league starts for the club before the lockdown.
Kiko Casilla has been the club’s first-choice ‘keeper ever since he joined the club from Real Madrid in January 2019, but a recent suspension following his FA investigation has opened the door wide for French youth international Illan Meslier to nail down a starting berth.
Three wins in a row set up the side very nicely for their trip to a struggling Hull City where Casilla was handed an eight-match ban the night before.
A clean sheet and relatively routine afternoon welcomed Meslier on his first of Championship football, but a much tougher proposition followed when Huddersfield Town made the trip to Elland Road the following weekend.
While the Terriers failed to get a grip on the game, they did manage to test the young stopper, to which he handled very comfortably and showed no signs of nervousness in the Leeds goal.
All EFL clubs have returned to grouped training this week and Leeds’ preparations remain the same, to push for automatic promotion back to the Premier League, regardless of the lengthy delay to action.
A lot were keen to see what Jean-Kevin Augustin’s condition is like but another Frenchman has been given the spotlight today as he hopes to consolidate his position in the Leeds goal.
