Though not going quite as far as announcing his full starting eleven, Marcelo Bielsa did reveal a number of concerns that were forcing his hand in team selection ahead of Saturday’s early kick off against Middlesbrough away at the Riverside.
In the press conference, he revealed that:
- Mateusz Klich and Adam Forshaw are both suffering from minor knee injuries and so are doubtful to start the game.
- In their place however, will be Kalvin Phillips who is confirmed to start at centre-mid and we presume in the holding role. It was also revealed that Jamie Shackleton will start, though Luke Ayling is set to start too, so we imagine Shack will take up the other central midfield role.
- Pablo Hernandez is touch and go with a groin issue.
We must therefore ask who comes in for Pablo should he be confirmed injured. The potential return of Barry Douglas at left-back could allow Alioski to move up to the wings, on either the left or right (as they have been known to switch) with Jack Harrison facing up on the other side. Another potential solution would be to start both Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford and move Tyler Roberts out wide.
