Bielsa Remains Coy on January Signings

A true man of principle over pragmatism, Marcelo Bielsa today reiterated his belief that making additional signings in the January transfer window is unnecessary.

This will be met with mixed reactions from some sections of the Elland Road faithful who are crying out for additional defensive options.

Leeds have been hit with an unprecedented amount of injuries to their backline, with Liam Cooper the latest to be ruled out after undergoing knee surgery.

The belief is rooted in Bielsa’s preference to have a set of players who have been coached and become adapted to his philosophies on the pitch. If we cast our minds back to summer, we’ll remember grueling accounts of players routinely being put through triple training sessions. If a core player was to be brought in during the January window, ‘catching up’ on this would be almost impossible.

There was, however, one department which Bielsa hinted may receive an extra troop. That is, a new goalkeeper. Bielsa revealed in his press conference that it is yet to be agreed whether a new keeper will come in to provide much needed competition for Bailey Peacock-Farrell following the long-term injury suffered by Jamal Blackman.

It is not all pessimism for Leeds fans however. Many of the defensive injuries are set to return not long after the new year. Not to mention, Izzy Brown and Patrick Bamford; who are close to being in contention to start. Both are players who we are yet to see hit their true stride.

I just think we need to sign a big bully centre forward who is good in the air and fleet of foot, a bit of a miixer who can also drop back when we concede corners but he must be able to hold up play when he gets the ball. We don’t have anybody in that mould unless Edmondson can fit the bill, maybe Bielsa has that I’m mind.
