Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has reportedly spoken directly to Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi over a proposed move to Elland Road this month.

Leeds are gearing up for their meeting with Brentford this weekend, which could be a make-or-break meeting for Jesse Marsch in the dugout, knowing he’s under great pressure to find a way out of this rut.

New signings could feature for the Whites, but more is likely to be going on behind the scenes to strengthen the first-team.

Azzedine Ounahi looks to be the final piece of business Leeds are aiming to conduct this month, having held talks with the midfielder.

The Athletic revealed that Leeds are still mulling over the £20million price tag set by his club Angers, while the likes of Napoli, Leicester City, and Aston Villa remain keen.

Now, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has spoken on the JustJoeFootball Podcast about the discussions held between Leeds and the 22-year-old over making the move to Elland Road:

“It’s the right time for Ounahi to move so that will give Leeds confidence, it is also to my understanding he’s spoken directly to Jesse Marsch about his role.

“About the team, about a plan if Leeds themselves were to go down that’s the only thing that may go through the player’s mind in terms of if he joins now and Leeds get relegated, then he goes from one relegation scrap to another.”

Would Ounahi be a good signing?

It’s fair for Ounahi to be concerned over the chances of going down, when that could be the case if he doesn’t leave Angers.

Napoli being in for him should be a major worry for the board, knowing how well they’ve done with recruitment, seeing them top the Serie A table, with a squad brimming with talent.

Ounahi would fit right in with what we need, it’s just a case of whether the club push hard enough to pay up.
