Andrea Radrizzani has reiterated that Leeds United may well have to sell players in the coming transfer window, following the blueprint that’s helped Leicester City become a Premier League force.

Leeds are currently playing their second year back in the Premier League after a 16-year exodus from the top-flight of English football.

The focus this year is on surviving after a tough start to the 2021/22 campaign under Marcelo Bielsa. However, there’s an eye on the long-term when it comes to Radrizzani and he’s offered an insight into his plan for Leeds.

Speaking with Forbes’ Michael Ozanian, Radrizzani outlined how Leeds may need to follow Leicester’s model by selling their better players in the coming years.

“[We] will have to sell maybe one or two key players and buy other talents coming up like Leicester did in the past so we need to be humble and realistic of our means [so that] we grow gradually step by step.”

The likes of Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante are players that Leicester have moved on in recent years on their way to establishing themselves as a side ready to compete for Europe consistently.

If Leeds can do what Leicester have in the coming years, few can complain.

However, it doesn’t mean that Radrizzani’s admissions aren’t going to be controversial with some supporters.

Some will argue that selling the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha isn’t a show of ambition and that it’s difficult to get to Leicester’s level without them.

Yet, it could well fund better recruitment throughout the rest of the squad – it’s a double edged sword.

Radrizzani has to manage things carefully, just as he’s done for the majority of his time with the club.
