Leeds United midfielder Lewis Bate produced a great moment of skill to score against Salford City in the EFL Trophy.

Leeds’ youth side have been impressing a lot since the club sealed promotion to the Premier League.

Wise investment in talent from elsewhere has helped boost the prospects of the under-23s too, and with that has come chance to face senior outfits in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Lewis Bate’s arrival caught the eye in the summer as he ditched Chelsea for Elland Road, knowing that first-team opportunities are far more likely under Marcelo Bielsa.

It might take some time for him to get that chance but meanwhile, he’s showcasing exactly why he’s one of the players to watch at the minute.

In spite of a 5-3 defeat to Salford City on Tuesday night, Leeds’ slick play was to be admired and Bate himself scored a stunning goal to get off the mark in Leeds colours:

It drew huge reaction from the Leeds fans who know they’ve got an exceptional talent on their hands, and the owner, Andrea Radrizzani was amongst those heaping praise on Bate (via Twitter):

Bate is another player who I can see having a great future at the club in the coming years.

He might have to be patient to wait for next season for his first-team chance, but he’s showing that he’s more than capable of making the step up soon.

He’s not renowned for his goal scoring but this was a classy finish and one that demonstrates his ability with the ball.

I can’t wait to see how well he progresses, and neither can Radrizzani but the looks of it.
