After Wednesday’s disappointing draw against Bristol City, where we conceded two goals in the last seven minutes, we look ahead at the potential starting line up for the Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday. Should Marco Silvestri be dropped? Bellusci or Cooper? Who should start in central midfield? These are all questions Rosler must be asking himself after the frantic final minutes at Ashton Gate.

Anyhow, this would be my team for the weekend..

Goalkeeper – Ross Turnbull

It’s got to happen, hasn’t it? Enough is enough with Silvestri’s errors. The needless flapping at crosses when he isn’t under any pressure, it’s got to stop. Turnbull was fairly impressive against Doncaster in the cup, he didn’t do anything wrong. He looked calm and composed and his distribution wasn’t that bad either. For me, he has to start on Saturday.

Onto the defence..

The defence
Right-back – Gaetano Berardi

Surely the only reason he didn’t start was due to tiredness or injury. He’s a miles better full-back than Wootton and arguably one of the first names on Uwe Rosler’s team-sheet given how he’s performed so far this season. He has the pace needed to cover any mistakes made, his positioning is great and he has a decent delivery on him to support the attack.

Centre-back’s – Sol Bamba and Liam Cooper

Bamba for obvious reasons. He didn’t do a lot wrong Wednesday, although some may say he was partly at fault for Kieran Agard’s goal. Given the fact that he’s captain, I don’t think he’ll be dropped.

Liam Cooper was very unlucky to not start against City. He helped keep United’s first clean-sheet against Reading last Sunday and didn’t do too much wrong. He’s still young and will get better the more he plays. I’d start with him ahead of Bellusci on Saturday. I just hope he doesn’t go and make a daft error if he does start.

Left-back – Charlie Taylor

Taylor pretty much picks himself, he’s been magnificent since coming into the team. Also he’s the only left-back in the squad, unless you want to play Berardi or Cooper out of position. He’s sensible with his play and doesn’t try anything stupid.

Next up – the midfield..

Right-midfield – Sam Byram

He hasn’t had the best of performances in the recent games against Reading and Bristol City but he has undoubted talent and I’m sure the thought of a Yorkshire derby will give him some motivation to perform on Saturday. I wouldn’t bring in Doukara as he’s way off the pace and I just hope we bring in another winger before the transfer window closes.

Central-midfield – Tom Adeyemi and Kalvin Phillips

Neither did anything wrong on Wednesday – although in the circumstances we were in you want your midfielders to get their foot on the ball and retain it. It’s something we’ve lacked for ages but with a young midfield, it will come.

Phillips has been class since coming in for Cook and it’ll be tough to drop him if he carries on with his form.

Adeyemi is perfect for a 4-4-2, he’s strong, athletic and gets himself up and down the pitch well.

Left-midfield – Stuart Dallas

He’s going to break his duck on Saturday, I can feel it. He’s very talented and his work-rate is great. He tracks back well. If he gets the space he can provide Wood and Antenucci with the service and I expect to see more of it at Elland Road on Saturday.

Finally the forwards..

Striker – Chris Wood

After bagging his first goal for the Whites, I expect more to come from Chris Wood. He’s definitely got the attributes to succeed at Elland Road and if he carries on like that he’ll have the fans on his side in no time. His celebration said it all. Relief all round.

Chris-Wood-1

Striker – Mirco Antenucci

Antenucci gave his chances of a starting place a massive boost with his performance on Wednesday. Two goals for the Italian and I fully expect him to get more than he got last season. Hopefully he and Chris Wood can continue with their partnership.

That’s the team I would pick from what I’ve seen so far this season. I would like to see Erwin get 20 minutes if possible as well.

Indeed turnbull at the back also take off the so called defender Wotton.

I’m so pleased that it’s Uwe Rosler picking the team … however, as with MickC, I would like to see Lee Erwin be given an opportunity, even as a 20 / 30 minute sub.
