Leeds United have been dealt another injury blow as Helder Costa’s back injury is worse than first feared.
Leeds have been struggling to keep the squad fit all season after a short turnaround from promotion.
Mainly, the defence has suffered from that lack of game-to-game consistency but setbacks have come all over the pitch.
Raphinha’s thigh injury handed the chance to Helder Costa to make his mark, but now he’s been dealt a blow.
Starting against Manchester United, Costa was marked up against Aaron Wan Bissaka and the Man United man had the better of the contest.
However, Costa was forced off with a back injury after a wrestling move of a tackle from Wan Bissaka went unpunished.
Costa missed out against Brighton, but with Tottenham up next, Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed a big blow for the winger.
Adam Pope revealed that Costa is out for the season:
I still find it incredible that we’ve now got both senior right-wingers injured for challenges that weren’t punished correctly.
Fernandinho should have been sent off for his challenge on Raphinha, and how Wan Bissaka’s wasn’t a foul I’ll never know.
It leaves us with perhaps Ian Poveda getting more game time or even a debut for Crysencio Summerville.
It’s a shame Costa’s season has ended prematurely because he was looking somewhat promising after the Arsenal defeat.
