Sam Greenwood will not be available for Leeds United’s fifth round FA Cup clash next month.

Leeds beat Accrington Stanley convincingly at the weekend, with a 3-1 win at the Wham Stadium securing a passage into the last 16.

However, Jesse Marsch is going to be without Greenwood for that next round, owing to suspension.

Adam Pope of BBC Radio Leeds has detailed Greenwood’s absence, which comes following back-to-back yellow cards against Cardiff City and Accrington.

The 20-year-old has played in all three of Leeds’ FA Cup games so far this season, featuring for 90 minutes in each game. The first of those yellow cards came in the initial tie against Cardiff, not the replay.

Leeds will learn their opponent for the fifth round tonight, with the draw live on BBC One’s One Show at 7pm tonight. Marsch’s side are ball 16 in the pot, having beaten Accrington 3-1 at the weekend thanks to goals from Jack Harrison, Junior Firpo and Luis Sinisterra.

The fifth round games will be played on the week commencing February 27th.

Who did Leeds sign Greenwood from?

Given how Marsch has leaned on Greenwood in the FA Cup so far this season, it’s obviously a blow that the midfielder will be missing from whoever Leeds face in the fifth round.

Obviously he’s helped Leeds manage the minutes of Tyler Adams and Marc Roca, although Weston McKennie’s seemingly imminent arrival does offer some more midfield depth.

Opportunities for Darko Gyabi might also be forthcoming in the next round of the cup without Greenwood available, although given how Marsch has been approaching the competition so far, it’s more likely to be Adams, Roca or even McKennie lining up next time out.
