Leeds United continued their great week with another three goal haul against Yorkshire rivals Barnsley, with a 3-1 win at Elland Road in the EFL Cup.

The Whites remain unbeaten, sitting third in the league table after a famous 3-0 win over bitter rivals Chelsea at the weekend.

They continued the season’s good form after a brace from Mateusz Klich and a stunner from Luis Sinisterra saw them sail through into the third round of the EFL Cup, setting up a tie away at Molineux against fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Leeds produced a professional display despite nine changes being made to the side, including Adam Forshaw, who also deputised as captain in the second half as Leeds saw out the victory.

Quiz: Has Leeds United’s Adam Forshaw scored a career goal against the following 15 clubs?

Professionalism is a major part of Forshaw’s game, and as revealed on The Athletic Football Podcast by Phil Hay, Forshaw has been seen as one of the leadership group for a long time now alongside Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling, and Stuart Dallas.

His Instagram post was as professional as ever, all focus is already off Barnsley and on the next round.

Forshaw has struggled with injury for much of the last few years at Leeds, but he has undoubted quality that can benefit the side.

After his return last season, he looked like a player reborn again. His ability to scan and recycle the ball is an important profile within this squad, especially in seeing out games where Leeds find themselves under the cosh.

Even if the experienced 30-year-old is more of a substitute or periphery first-team figure now, he can still be an asset within the dressing room, as seen last night in taking the armband.

He will be hoping to play a bigger part again this season, be that in the league or getting regular EFL Cup minutes. Onto Wolves next…
