Leeds United are reportedly looking at signing young Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumaré.

The Whites made no signings in the January transfer window, with no deals presenting as good opportunities for Marcelo Bielsa and his squad.

So, attention has now turned to plotting swoops for the summer, with the understanding that Leeds are going to be a Premier League outfit beyond this season.

An area that needs to be strengthened is central midfield with virtually no senior depth in the squad behind Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich.

Football Insider are reporting that Leeds are interested in signing Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumaré.

The 21-year-old had previously been touted for a move to Newcastle United after the Tyneside club had a £35million bid knocked back in January 2020.

Soumaré has been a regular starter this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit, the same place he made his debut for the club back in 2017, under a certain Marcelo Bielsa.

After swooping for Raphinha from the French league, the fans are tempted by the proposition of Soumaré being linked…

It would be a hugely ambitious signing to bring in Soumaré from Lille, even if he’s within our price range.

There will be a number of clubs casting an eye on him after his performances since his debut but the chance to reunite with Bielsa could be what helps this tip in our favour.

We will be targeting a midfielder in the summer and this calibre of players would be huge for us going forwards.

Having brought in Raphinha from that league, there is proof that Leeds can tempt genuine Champions League-standard players to Elland Road.
