Leeds, for once, were on the back foot for large parts of the win over West Brom last night. They were made to dig deep and put together some last ditch defending as West Brom went in search of an equaliser, ultimately meaning Leeds had a different kind of work out than usual, which can only be a good thing. Nevertheless, Leeds came out victorious.

Here’s our player ratings from the night:

Kiko Casilla: Solid display, given the circumstances. No mistakes to speak of against the WBA pressure. One heart in mouth moment towards the close of play, but escaped from this unscathed. 7/10.

Stuart Dallas: Another class display wherever he’s asked to play. Did what he’s asked to do well. 7/10.

Ben White: Very important for Leeds last night in our biggest defensive workout yet. Withheld pressure well and made some significant clearances. 8/10.

Liam Cooper: Worked well but subbed off injured in the first half unfortunately.

Gjanni Alioski: One of his better games, controlled his wing well and was wise enough to make the run to give Harrison some support and was justly rewarded with a goal. 8/10.

Kalvin Phillips: Some huge tackles, bravo as per. 8/10.

Jamie Shackleton: Always performs in games that are more stretched. Held his own. 7/10.

Mateusz Klich: Was an important game for Klich as his physical presence was needed and he served just that. 7/10.

Helder Costa: Much better from Costa tonight, unlucky not to bag on two occasions. Did enough to be in the frame to start every game from now. 7/10.

Jack Harrison: Did well when he did well, did not so well when he did not so well. A Harrison tale. Kept the ball well to get the assist and patiently wait for an opportunity to arise on the goal. However could have done much better keeping the ball towards the end, the sort of sloppiness that might cost us a game. 6.5/10.

Patrick Bamford: Again much better from Pat tonight. Held the ball up well, helped create chances and got stuck into the battles against the defence, who became a bit pre occupied with trying to break him in two. Nevertheless, a worthy MOTM performance. 7/10.

Tyler Roberts: Though a short stint there was a few nice bits of play from TyRob here and there but he was never going to be the man to see out a game in terms of defensive work. Might start on Saturday if Forshaw remains injured. 7/10.

Gaetano Berardi: Will assume the starting centre back role now Cooper is injured. Got a good chunk of the game last night and looked in good form to press on. 6.5/10.

Luke Ayling: Great to see him return to first team action. Didn’t appear to be lacking any sharpness and steadied the defence when West Brom were trying just about anything.
