Joe Gelhardt joined the Whites from Wigan Athletic on Monday signing a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee. This is quite the swoop for United with a number of clubs chasing his signature. This looks like one to join the increasingly promising young crop at Thorp Arch. Don’t be surprised to see him named on the bench in a crucial Premier League game this forthcoming season. That would be classic Bielsa.

The young striker benefited from The Latics off the field issues featuring in the starting eleven twice and making 17 outings from the bench. He’s also been on the England scene stacking up a healthy 27 appearances across all age groups.

Fans over the pennines have compared the youngster to Wayne Rooney when he first burst onto the scene. Stocky build, good on the ball, exciting and can strike the ball sweetly. Also it will be interesting to see his physical development under Bielsa with his tough “murderball” training sessions.

However with Carlos Corberán recent departure to Championship side Huddersfield Town, this would be a good place for possibly the likes of Robbie Gotts, Jamie Shackelton and Gelhardt to progress with vital game time.
