Leeds went out of the Capital One Cup in the first round for the first time in their history last night, losing 4-2 on penalties to Doncaster Rovers. Leeds played much of the game with 10 men after Lewis Cook was given his marching orders just after the half hour mark.

Let’s have a look at some things we’ve learnt from the game.

Ross Turnbull

Ross Turnbull

Ross had a very strong debut and was desperately unlucky not to keep Andy Williams’ spot kick out, diving the right way and even getting a hand on the ball. It’s fairly obvious Silvestri will be our number one in the league but in Ross we have a very decent back-up ‘keeper.

Put Ross Turnbull in goal. I really feel he is a better goalie than the Italian.more experience and done it in the top level…what are we waiting for?
Also,One thing that worried me was Wootton being Picked out of position. He should not Start a match again, even in Central Midfield, unless we are desperate. another Point,Cook must be made to realize that being young doesn’t give him the excuse to let the whole Team down.Sorry guys,I say this because I feel Discipline is lacking at Leeds and we cannot compete if we have an Undisciplined Side. I do hope Cook has learned his lesson that Leeds come first and is bigger than any Individual.

I say that we should get Rid of Wootton he is dead wood.get an Experienced Central defender that is worthy to wear the Leeds Shirt,,Such as Liam Moore..why aren’t we bringing him in?or someone like him with Years of Experience …
we must get another Midfielder Will Buckley or Joey Barton..both of these will Add a Lot of Quality and Experience to the Midfield..we have too many Youth now and not enough Old heads. come on,,we need the balance right.
we must Put Adeyemi in place of Cook,,(HOPE WE CAN PLAY BOTH MURPHY AND ADEYEMI SOME HOW..But we cannot start both in the same game..we need to be careful.perhaps use them both interchangeably, when we have lots of games coming together. )
Here’s what we have right now,the team to play Reading..: same Defense as against Burnley,or Move Byram back to defense while slot Erwin on the right side.
Dallas must be one of out first eleven. Byram,. Adeyemi and Murphy..Mowatt is a big Player for me…he must start always if he is fit and on form….

Wood should start, Erwin must be given a chance also……not as a Lone Striker,But in place of Byram and Byram can play at right back.Erwin WILL also be sort of Partner with wood, but his best role is play as creative midfielder with an Eye for goal.. .Byram can still move up field ..but Erwin has a better eye for goal and can also Run at Players…i would still play Antenucci on the bench….he is a Striker not a midfielder..he will add so much coming on with 20 minute to go..Fresh and eager to go for goals when the opposition is not so fresh..we have enough Talent in midfield who can Create Chances ..we need to utilize them better..not play the Italian there….

Reading game: the Four Defenders who started against Burnley…replace Murphy with Cook who cannot start anyway..otherwise that the side to play….Bring Erwin on late on so he can prove his worth..I believe he will! Turnbull in Goal

I meant Replace Cook with Murphy…Adayemi should start also. (Byram in right back…5 players to play in midfield..Mowatt playing a Creative role Upfront ,Dallas out wide…Adeyemi and Murphy both holding role but able to adapt well…they can also move forward and link well with the guys upfront .. when the need arises, with Erwin player 5 on my list OF midfielders…. or Byram right side..Wood lone Striker.helped by Erwin on the right side.. )

    • The Midge says:

Sorry, but I’ve totally had enough of fans, and managers, not using or wanting Antenucci as a regular starter. He is clearly the best striker we’ve had since McCormack. The team should almost be built around him – I’m serious. So, folks, you need him and a ‘Wood type’ player up front and the rest is simple : have 4-4-2 and stop pratting around with anything else!

  • Fred says:

I thought we got knocked out in the first round last year against Bradford.

  • Chris says:

Agree with your comments. I was particularly impressed with Berardi having not rated him at the start of last season. Much improved and now looks a good player rather than a liability #MoT

  • ALBERTO says:

Turnbull definitely looks a stronger keeper than Silvestri and should be given his chance, but the midfield still needs a leader in it, like Joey Barton and definitely not Wootton.
I do not agree with playing with only one striker and would like to see Antenucci alongside Wood.
Against Burnley, Wood looked isolated and was about as useful as Morison would have been and needs more support.
If a win does not come at Reading, the pressure will start on Rosler and the team, because there are some very tough games coming up after that game.
Nothing looks to have changed from last season, because the team is still struggling to score more than one goal per game, which is very frustrating and concerning.
