5 things we learned

5 things we learned from the dominating win over Preston

|

People will look at Brighton or Derby as our best performances this season and they’ve got a point. However, I believe Saturday’s win over PNE was our best performance and here’s why:

1) Who knew? People other than Wood can score goals – One man team Leeds United managed to win 3-0 without Wood contributing to that total, although he was very unfortunate, having a questionable offside and the crossbar keeping him at bay. It was great to see three different goalscorers for Leeds, the attacking play was so fluid, Wood had a great game without scoring.

2) The starting XI is our best one – The team that started against Preston is the one that should start every game barring injury. I like Bridcutt, but I think he holds us back in certain games. He sits to deep and we end up playing with one in the midfield, leading to us being overrun. I have no idea why Roofe has been left out for so long but he proved a point on Saturday for sure.

3) Kalvin Phillips is good at football –
For some reason, he’s been the target of abuse on social media and even at the ground for stages of this season. I’m not sure why, a young player from Leeds with loads of potential who starred in our best form of the season. Doesn’t really add up does it? Well he proved them wrong on Saturday with a brilliant performance. He plays much higher up the field than Bridcutt which makes things happen in attack, and solidifies us in the middle.

4) Don’t forget Ronaldo Vieira – So I’ve mentioned Phillips, but lets not forget his younger teammate, Ronaldo Vieira. Those two have a great partnership in midfield, they suit eachother well.

Vieira has been a revelation this season, starting so many games at the age of 18, he’s so strong in the tackle and when he’s on it, he controls games. Phillips does all the passing for him and it works out well.

5) Berardi deserves to start over Taylor – Charlie Taylor is clearly the better talent, but that’s not the only reason to pick a player to start. The commitment Berardi brings to the team is ridiculous, he is playing far too well to be dropped. He had another outstanding game on Saturday, along with Ayling who was back to his best. I do like Charlie but especially considering he’s looking to leave, he shouldn’t be surprised that he’s missing out at the minute.

What did you think of the game? Was it our best XI? Let us know in the comments.
