In the infamous words of one Ross McCormack ‘this isn’t the Leeds United I fell in love with’, organised and savvy in the transfer market. Not for me, no thank you.
Alright, maybe Jack Clarke has been at Leeds all his life, and other Jack, the winger Harrison, is also familiar to Elland Road if you cast your mind back to 2 months ago.
But Ben White and Helder Costa. Two new fresh faces for Marcelo Bielsa to throw into the fire. More than two new fresh faces, however. They hold two important truths about the brand new Leeds United.
Ben White and Helder Costa have been the names linked with Leeds United since the day the season ended. And, strangely, they have been the only names linked with Leeds United. When has there ever been a season when Leeds have secured who they wanted as priority number one. Not in the crazed football league era, that is for certain.
White, adds another body to the centre-back department, giving much needed competition and back-up to Cooper and Jansson. Helder Costa is a proven Winner in the Championship. Having won promotion with Wolves alongside Barry Douglas just two seasons ago, he brings an injection of creative flair to the wing at Elland Road, a dearth of which cost us heavily last season. A clear candidate in the Pablo Hernandez succession plan.
But crucially, Leeds have got the timing perfect. Business done. Not one pre-season game played. This allows them to get their heads down for another season without distraction of incomings and outgoings that may change the composition of the team.
Dare I say, it’s Advantage Leeds.
