3 Standout performers from Leeds’ win over Sheffield United

|

A massive win against 12 men yesterday saw Leeds briefly head back to the top of the table before Norwich beat Rotherham. With Boro getting battered by Villa at home, Leeds are now 4 points clear of third place with QPR next up at Elland Road. Who dragged Leeds through the game yesterday? Let’s get into it…

Kemar Roofe

Although he didn’t score, when Leeds were good going forward, he was in the thick of everything linking up play. When he switched positions with Pablo Hernandez and played out wide, he did some really important defensive work too. His header was very much Raheem Sterling v Italy-esque. Roofe has been a revelation so far this season.

Jack Clarke

After Alioski had worn his invisibility cloak for another half, for the second game in a row he was removed at half time for Jack Clarke. The difference was instant and clear to see, Clarke was direct with his runs and challenged defenders, something Alioski consistently fails to do. Clarke’s stamina was questioned against Reading but he didn’t seem to have any problems in Sheffield.

His assist for the goal may seem simple but it was actually a brilliant bit of play from him, the keeper got to him really quickly after the mistake and Clarke lifted it slightly over him to put it on a plate for Hernandez. Surely it’s time he was given a start against QPR?

Kalvin Phillips (Happy Birthday!)

Asked to play centre-back again against Sheffield United, KP stood up to the task and excelled in that role. When Cooper went down with an injury early, Phillips had to swap from right-centre-back to the left which would cause many problems but not Kalvin, who could probably play any position.

Worth a mention to Aapo Halme too, other than a few nervy moments, he had a really solid game. Phillips picked up his second Sky MOTM of the season, too.

Let us know who impressed you most for Leeds yesterday!
