3 Standout performers for Leeds against Brentford

|

Before the international break consumes us all with boredom, we thought we’d take one last look at the Brentford game to see who impressed most for Leeds.

Pontus Jansson

Jansson put in what was probably his best performance of the season, he looked excellent throughout the game and was probably a 10/10 even without scoring the important goal at the end. For me, Jansson’s performances of late have exceeded those from the 2016/17 season. It seems as though the game moves slower for him than the rest of the players, he’s always in the right place at the right time and he’s not letting his aggression get the better of him.

Speaking of Jansson, both he and Cooper have been nominated for player of the month in the Championship for September and you can vote for either of those on the right hand side of this page. Feel free to support the lads!

Gjanni Alioski

Stay with me here for a second. By no means was Alioski great on Saturday, but what stood out to me was how good he looked when he switched to the left-back role. The main problem with Leeds on Sunday was the lack of balance the side had with Dallas in for Douglas, it does make you think what could the game have been like if Alioski or Pearce had started there.
Alioski was like a different man after he switched roles, his crossing from a deeper position was great. If we ever need someone to fill in for Douglas and Bielsa still doesn’t rate Pearce, it should definitely be Alioski.

Lewis Baker

Clearly scraping the barrel here a bit because nobody other than Jansson was too great on Saturday. However, given Baker’s lack of game time so far this season I thought he looked really sharp. On a different day he could have scored two, his freekick wasn’t far off and that header was so close to winning the game for Leeds.
It’s difficult at the minute because Klich is playing so well but at some point Baker will have a role to play and it’ll be interesting to see more from him.

Let us know who you thought stood out for Leeds on Saturday and make sure to vote for Cooper or Jansson in the Player Of The Month award!

  • Terry kingston says:

If any referee from any qualification defends the penalty that leeds conceded against brentford he as been refereeing under false pretences it was a clear dive don’t let your brain kid you other way..is Dermot Gallagher saying a goalkeeper is not allowed to defend his goal by throwing himself in front of an attacker to not concede a goal or should he have invited him past with the ball ..like a matador at a bullfight ..do not defend scandalous 90 minute refereeing
