It looks as though Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton could be on the move during the summer transfer window.

Having come through the youth ranks at Leeds, Shackleton has been a feature in the club’s first-team for some time now, but has found opportunities harder to come by in the Premier League in the past two seasons.

With the new signings arriving at Elland Road this summer as well, it seems unlikely that things will change for Shackleton any time soon.

As a result, recent reports from The Yorkshire Evening Post have suggested that the versatile 22-year-old could be set to leave Leeds this summer, either permanently or on loan to the Championship.

So with that in mind, we’ve taken a look three EFL clubs Shackleton should have in mind as a potential next destination, as he considers his options during the summer transfer window.

Blackburn Rovers

Newly appointed Blackburn head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson is one who places plenty of emphasis on the development of young players, so a move to Ewood Park could certainly benefit Shackleton’s career.

Indeed, Rovers are currently short on options in the centre of midfield and right-back, the two positions Shackleton is used in most often, so a move here could give him a decent amount of first-team opportunities.

With Ian Poveda having spent last season on loan at Ewood from Leeds, there is also a link between the two clubs that could help them work together effectively to agree a deal here.

Burnley

With Dale Stephens leaving the club, and Josh Brownhill attracting plenty of interest from elsewhere, Burnley are another Lancashire side who could benefit from the addition of Shackleton.

Given both Ashley Westwood and Jack Cork are over the age of 30 as well, a move to Turf Moor could enable the much younger Shackleton to become a long term asset for the Clarets as well.

Considering Burnley will be among those eyeing promotion from the Championship this season after their relegation, the midfielder may also see a potential move here, as a decent opportunity to make a swift return to the Premier League.

Stoke City

With Joe Allen, Romaine Sawyers and Mario Vrancic all on their way out of the club this summer, Stoke are another side who could benefit from additional reinforcements in the centre of the park.

Given Tommy Smith has also moved on, there is a lack of depth at right-back as well, meaning a move here could provide plenty of opportunities for Shackleton, and given the Potters have just signed Liam McCarron from Leeds, there would be a familiar face to help him settle in.

The Potters are also another who will go into next season with aims of winning promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, meaning they too could turn out to be an appealing destination for the 22-year-old.
