Marcelo Bielsa is on the verge of committing to Leeds United in the 2021/22 season with a new contract.

The Whites have been absolutely blessed by the impact of Bielsa ever since he took over at Elland Road.

His influence on every one of the players has been outstanding and the main reason for why Leeds are now a Premier League outfit once again.

Every summer, though, there comes the lingering doubts over his contract as it runs towards an expiry.

However, the club have nothing to worry about and clearly aren’t worrying, as the latest updates have emerged suggesting it’s merely a matter of time.

Club CEO Angus Kinnear has revealed its merely a ‘formality’ before his deal is signed and sorted.

Here, we deliver three potential knock-on effects to Bielsa putting pen-to-paper…

Other contracts fall into place

Players can often commit their future to the club based on the likewise commitment of the boss.

Bielsa has transformed the prospects of so many players at Leeds, and the players will be so willing to work with him.

Having him tied down for another year is one less loose end for the players to concern themselves over with regards to whether they want to be at Leeds long-term.

Obviously, it’s never been in doubt, but you’d think that by the fact that Bielsa has signed his deal, players such as Patrick Bamford, Stuart Dallas and others will chase that new deal a lot more.

Transfers kick into gear

While existing Leeds players know that Bielsa not signing isn’t an indication of him getting cold feet on the Elland Road project, it might cast doubts for players on the outside.

Leeds and Bielsa will have targets that they want to get their hands on as soon as possible, but those players might want similar assurances that the main man is going to still be there.

So many players from far and wide have aspirations of playing for El Loco, and his new deal would be confirmation to them that he’s going to be here next season.

Also, once Bielsa signs that deal, you know the club can ramp up negotiations for players he wants.

Focus on long-term

While Bielsa’s deal is probably at the top of the agenda, long-term plans for the club’s infrastructure have taken centre-stage this week.

It was revealed this week via the Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds have progressed with plans to expand Elland Road to 55,000 seats.

Andrea Radrizzani and Kinnear will be spinning plates in the boardroom on a daily basis, but sorting out Bielsa’s contract eliminates one thing on the agenda.

On top of that, Leeds’ ambitious expansion plans hinge on the club’s Premier League stability, something that would be thrown into huge doubt if Bielsa packed his bags.

Get Bielsa signed, focus on stability, then build for the future.
