With a place in the Premier League now seemingly secure for next season, Leeds United can start planning for the summer transfer window.

It looks as though there will be a number of positions that the Yorkshire club will be looking to strengthen in, as they aim to move up the table next season.

While there may be some deals that Leeds will be looking to do with fellow top-flight clubs in England and Europe, another area the club could look to for potential recruits, is the Football League.

There have been a number of players across the course of the season who have stood out in the EFL, highlighting their potential to make the step up to the Premier League next season.

That is something that Leeds could look to take advantage of when the transfer window reopens, and here, we’ve taken a look at three Football League players who Leeds should be considering a possible move for, come the end of the season.

Ivan Toney (Brentford)

One who – perhaps not surprisingly – has already been linked with Leeds United ahead of the summer transfer window, is Ivan Toney, and that is a deal that would make perfect sense.

Leeds are currently lacking a senior centre forward to cover for Patrick Bamford upfront, and that is something they may want to consider changing, to ensure they remain a threat when the 27-year-old is absent or going through a lean spell in front of goal.

With 27 Championship goals for Brentford this season, Toney is someone who it seems could fill that void, and with the level of interest there appears to be in the striker, this could be a coup for Leeds if they pull it off, although it appears that will not be cheap, with Brentford apparently placing a £30million price tag on the 25-year-old.

Brice Samba (Nottingham Forest)

With Kiko Casilla’s future at Elland Road seemingly uncertain, and the Spaniard’s performances when he does get a chance between the posts not entirely convincing, Leeds may be tempted to look for another goalkeeper this summer.

One from the Football League who they could consider, is Brice Samba, who has proved himself an impressive and generally reliable option between the posts since joining Nottingham Forest back in the summer of 2019.

His experience, and his ability the fact he has much of his life prior to that move to the City Ground, also means he could be a useful mentor to Leeds’ current number one, young Illan Meslier, which would no doubt also be a useful box to check for the Elland Road club.

Adam Masina (Watford)

Like Casilla, Ezgjan Alioski is another whose future with Leeds currently appears unclear, meaning a new left-back could also be on Bielsa’s shopping list in a few months time.

One option from the EFL that Leeds could look at to fill that role is Watford’s Adam Masina, who already has plenty of top-flight experience under his belt in his career, both at Vicarage Road, and previously with Bologna in Italy.

That is something that could prove useful for a Premier League side such as Leeds next season, and while Watford’s own promotion hopes could scupper interest from elsewhere if they prove successful, the fact that Masina is a player who can get forward from the left-hand side of defence, meaning he could fit in well with Bielsa’s style of play at Elland Road.
