Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams is leading his USMNT side into the knockout stages after their crucial 1-0 win over Iran this week.
The Whites have seen two of their squad progress to the knockouts of the World Cup, as Gregg Berhalter’s USA side overcame Iran on their final group game to finish second behind England.
A large factor in their solid performances in each game in Qatar has been newly-appointed captain of the country, Tyler Adams.
The midfielder has been outstanding in the middle of the park, and will be looking to do the same as the US prepare to face Cody Gakpo and The Netherlands in the round of 16.
After his performances lately, we tale a look at what the pundits have been saying about Adams’ efforts so far…
Danny Murphy
As we’ve seen time and again from Adams in a Leeds shirt this season, his aggression and intensity out of possession sets the tone for the rest of the side.
This was the case in all three of their games in the World Cup, and just one goal conceded is a testament to his quality to snuff out trouble before the back have even been put under pressure.
Adams was part of a key midfield trio once again, and Danny Murphy lauded his efforts against Iran live on BBC:
“Thoroughly deserved. Some terrific performances. Musah was wonderful again and celebrated his birthday. Tyler Adams was everywhere. A tireless performance from him.”

In terms of overall performances, there can’t be many players at this World Cup that have had a better impact on their team than Adams.
There certainly aren’t many defensive midfielders making the impression he is during matches.
Former Manchester United and Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham was seriously impressed with the 23-year-old’s campaign in Qatar, as he wrote this on Twitter:
