Leeds United have submitted a bid to sign PSV Eindhoven left-back Philipp Max, a report from TuttoMercatoWeb has claimed.

With Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas both out injured, and Leif Davis having been sold to Ipswich, Leeds do not currently have a senior left-back on their books, with little more than a week to go until the new season.

Now it seems as though that is something the club are working to address, with this latest update claiming that Leeds have made a £7million bid for the 28-year-old.

But just how important could this signing be to the club, if they manage to pull it off?

We’ve taken a look at two reasons why Leeds should be doing all they can to complete the signing of Max, right here.

A longer term option

Although both Firpo and Dallas are likely to return from injury well before the end of the season, getting Max now could still be useful when looking further into the future.

At 31-years-old, and with just two years remaining on his current contract at Elland Road, it may be argued that Dallas is now approaching the latter stages of his time at Leeds, perhaps as a first-team regular.

Bringing in a younger option such as Max, would therefore provide the club with someone who can offer more considerable cover and competition for Junior Firpo in the years to come, easing some of the pressure on the club in future transfer windows.

Quality and experience at a high level

Leeds are of course going to want to start this season as strongly as possible, to avoid any concerns of a repeat of the previous campaign’s struggles.

They are therefore, going to need a solid option to come in at left-back, and Max does look to be a player who fits that bill well.

The 28-year-old has almost 200 appearances to his name across the Bundesliga and Eredivisie, while he also has experience in both the Champions League and Europa League, meaning he does seem to have the pedigree required to fill that role, and should be well aware of what is needed from him at this level.
