It was another bleak evening for Leeds United in the Premier League as they lost 3-0 to Chelsea at Elland Road.

Leeds are rooted in the bottom three and their Premier League status is about as vulnerable as it has been all season heading into the final two games of the campaign.

Mason Mount opened the scoring for Chelsea before Daniel James was sent off for a poor challenge on Mateo Kovacic.

Christian Pulisic and Romelu Lukaku gave the scoreline a touch of extra shine for Chelsea in the second-half, leaving Elland Road to reflect on another night where Leeds were, ultimately, outclassed by superior opposition.

There were a couple of positives for Leeds but mixed with many negatives.

We take a look at a couple of the individuals that Marsch might be feeling let down by here:

Daniel James

This is the place to start, obviously.

James’ rush of blood on 24 minutes made a tough task tougher for Leeds, as he snapped into Mateo Kovacic’s ankle with a strong challenge.

It was a red card and there can be no complaints.

For Leeds’ supporters they will feel let down by James, just like they did Luke Ayling after Sunday’s defeat at Arsenal.

Marsch won’t publicly hang James out to dry, just like he didn’t with Ayling. However, he could well feel let down, just like the supporters.

His task in keeping Leeds in the Premier League is tough, so is taking points off Chelsea. It’s even harder with 10 men after one of your players loses his discipline like James did.

Rodrigo

Such was Chelsea’ dominance in a game that was 11v10 for over an hour, Rodrigo found it a real slog.

As per Wyscout stats, the Spanish international failed to have a shot, create a chance or even touch the ball inside the Chelsea penalty area.

He was isolated and suffered from how deep Marsch asked Leeds to play.

Yet, he wasn’t the outlet that they needed at the top of the pitch all evening.

Diving deeper into his performance, he gave up possession 12 times as nothing stuck, whilst he struggled to press and turn the ball back over, failing to make a recovery in the Chelsea half.

The system isolated him, whilst Leeds playing with 10 men didn’t help his cause.

However, Rodrigo was one player that left a lot to be desired last night and Leeds need him chipping into the form he showed in Marsch’s early fixtures in the coming games.
