2 knock-on effects Leeds United injury blow will have on Jesse Marsch’s squad

Leeds United have seen another player ruled out this week with Rasmus Kristensen picking up a recent setback.

The Whites have been frustrated with a number of setbacks already this season up and down the squad.

The latest in their list is Danish international Rasmus Kristensen, who was missing from the trip to Brentford at the weekend as he was out of the squad with an injury.

It has now been reported by Mike McGrath that the defender is likely to be missing for around a fortnight, and to a maximum of three weeks.

Here, we look at two knock-on effects that the right-backs recent setback will have…

A chance for others

Fortunately for Marsch, he has two right-backs waiting in the wings to cover for Kristensen, in Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh.

Both players featured during the 5-2 loss to Brentford last time out and while the scoreline might not be too great from a defensive perspective, signs were encouraging from both.

Ayling, in particular, came into the game following a four-month absence of football after his knee surgery in May and looked very good.

This absence is unfortunate for Kristensen, but these two players will be looking at these next two games as a great chance to nail their place in Marsch’s reckoning.

Should Ayling start against Forest?

Marsch re-assessing his best defence

Building on that, with Kristensen now out after an underwhelming start to life at Leeds, it begs the question of what Marsch’s best defence will look like going forward.

We know the Dane has quality, but we’re yet to see it, along with being caught out often out wide when defending.

There will certainly be changes to the back four after some of the absolute howlers at the weekend, and Marsch will still be assessing who is the best of his defenders to pick long-term.

Ayling will want to be in the reckoning after start well from injury, and Drameh is also a very talented option.
