Cody Drameh is one Leeds United player looking set to be in-demand when the January transfer window comes around.

Leeds fans will have seen reports from Fabrizio Romano this week crediting Borussia Dortmund, Lille and Bayer Leverkusen with an interest in the 20-year-old.

Additionally, Leeds are said to be fielding interest from Newcastle United in the right-back, who has made only seven senior appearances for the club, two of which have come this season.

Rasmus Kristensen and Luke Ayling are competing for the starting right-back berth at Leeds, which will be frustrating for Drameh given his previous desire to chase senior football at Cardiff City last season.

In the event of Drameh leaving Leeds and joining Newcastle, who right now look one of the most attractive propositions in the country, we take a look at TWO knock-on effects it might have:

Potential fan backlash

You only have to take a quick glance on social media to see what Leeds’ supporters are thinking.

They feel like the squad needs moving forwards from the Championship days, with a touch more faith in the likes of Drameh.

Leeds’ supporters can clearly see that Drameh is deserving of a chance to compete with Kristensen in the first-team. What they’ve seen so far might not have been mind blowing, yet the calibre of clubs interested here underline that there’s a very good player waiting to break through.

If Newcastle swoop for Drameh and he develops into a really good Premier League right-back, Leeds’ management will be left with egg on their face and a potential fan backlash.

Ayling rethink

Ayling is set to be out of contract at Elland Road in the summer of 2023 and there’s been no sign of a new deal on the table just yet.

With Kristensen new to the club, he’s the mid/long-term option for Leeds at right-back. If Ayling leaves, Drameh steps up as his natural cover and has the chance to push for more first-team involvements.

If Leeds end up losing that contingency plan, they might have to rethink what they are doing with Ayling.

Might it be that Leeds end up retaining him for another 12 months? Bringing in another youngster to learn the ropes down the pecking order before stepping up? It might be the best option in the event of Drameh leaving.
