10 changes for Leeds against Port Vale?

After the great opening day win against Bolton, Leeds go into the league cup game against Port Vale with many decisions to make. It’s worth a mention that Michael Brown is their manager and their central midfield on Saturday consisted of Michael Tonge and Danny Pugh, yes it did. With some injuries to contend with, who should start for Leeds against Port Vale?

GK – Rob Green – I don’t think Green will be here at the end of the window if Wiedwald remains number one, I’d like to see Green given a game tomorrow night so he can remind Christiansen what he’s missing.

Into the defence…

RB – Vurnon Anita –
No point risking Luke Ayling I don’t think, Anita looked top quality against Bolton and it’s a shame we’ll probably not see him play central midfield very often.

CB – Conor Shaughnessy – With Pennington injured and Jansson suspended, Shaughnessy will have to step up. It says a lot about the position Leeds are in that we’re playing a central midfielder from the Academy at centre-back, but there you go. I thought after his first minute shirt pull, he actually played pretty well.

CB – Liam Cooper – Had one of his better games for Leeds on Sunday and shouldn’t find too many problems in Port Vale’s attack.

LB – Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – I have no idea whether he’s fit enough to play and I was going to say we start Tyler Denton but he’s been loaned out… to Port Vale. Jackson did train with Man United’s academy in Austria this summer, so I’ll give him the start.

Into the midfield…

CM – Ronaldo Vieira – Left out of the squad against Bolton, I’d expect him to start on Wednesday. One of our standout players last season, he won’t want to get left behind this year.

CM – Mateusz Klich – May well have started the season if he wasn’t injured in preseason, it makes sense to start him tomorrow night. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s about, it’s going to be a battle to start in centre-mid this year.

CAM – Samu Sáiz – The signing fans seemed to be most excited about, I can’t wait to see him make his competitive debut. Pablo was top quality on Sunday, benefiting from better play around him than last season. However, Samu will start his fair share of games this season and we need him to be at a similar level.

Into the attack…

RW – Stuart Dallas – Our standout player in preseason and it was a surprise to see him left out against Bolton. Unless he’s on his way out of Leeds, he has to start tomorrow to see whether he’s a preseason wonder or not.

LW – Hadi Sacko – One of the worst cameos seen on Sunday. However, the game against Port Vale should be more his level and his pace should terrify their defence.

ST – Caleb Ekuban – Possibly the signing I’m most excited about seeing, he could be awful he could be brilliant, I don’t think anybody knows. One thing he does have is pace and that’s always helpful.

There’s always a chance that the manager will want to do well in the cup and make minimal changes, but with our squad I don’t think that will happen. Let us know what teams you would go with!

My main concern is that Green plays and we can see his quality. The new keeper, for me, did nothing on Saturday but relied entirely on his defence to get him out of trouble. He never came for a single ball. A better side will find him out.
